Hey Team Dog 🐾💛
Happy Spring! We've had an amazing winter season filled with adventures, and we're excited to share some updates with you!
WINTER ADVENTURES 🐾
This winter has been surprisingly gentle on us in Canterbury, with less snowfall than usual. This allowed us to venture higher into the mountains with our beloved dogs than we typically can during the winter months. The ice axes and crampons didn’t even surface this season! Haze, our German Shepherd in particular, loves the winter hiking season. That big, thick double coat was made for frolicking through fresh powder, and he turns into a young pup again, leaping around in glee when we encounter it.
We headed out with our girls for a few overnighters, always marveling at how quickly they’re growing and what those little legs can achieve.
We've been exploring a multitude of new trails across the North Island in preparation for Volume Two of Peaks and Paws: Hiking with Dogs in New Zealand.
The dogs have enjoyed joining us with our bows and helping us out with some small game hunting. Peak, the Standard Poodle, excels here. Many are unaware, but the Standard Poodle is no pretty couch ornament. They’re the original hunting and retrieving dog, built for endurance, the great outdoors, and a multitude of other activities. This is why she’s Josh’s go-to running companion, effortlessly running ultra marathons with him.
We’ve spent a lot of time fishing over the winter season, which the dogs have been thrilled with, as one of their favorite meals is raw fish frames!
THE GROOMING PARLOUR, SEMINARS, AND GROOMING SCHOOL 🐾
The grooming parlour has remained wonderfully busy—despite the colder winter months, which traditionally see many grooming businesses slow down. There have been many wonderful owners foreseeing their new pups' future grooming needs and getting them in for early acclimatization. Leanne has been grooming up a storm, which means plenty of happy pups!
Leanne traveled to the North Island to showcase her extremely popular, third-year-running “Southern Skills Grooming Seminar” with the groomers of New Zealand. Many groomers from all parts of New Zealand attended, eager to learn from Leanne’s vast 25 years of experience in grooming and everything dog-related! Late August had Leanne hosting her “Bring a Dog” workshop in our own parlour in Ashburton. Many groomers turned up over the weekend with dogs they were seeking guidance and help with, whether it was a potentially problematic pooch behavior-wise or a type of haircut they wanted to improve on.
We’re thrilled to welcome numerous new students into our grooming school, eager to learn how to pamper pups just like we do.
The feedback from our clients about our Honey Hound and Peach Pup shampoos has been fantastic, too! It’s heartwarming to hear how you’ve been using them to tackle those messy winter coats. Thank you for sharing your success stories with us!
